✈️ Whitehorse Airport Storm Line Rehabilitation
Client: Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport
Pipe Size: 150mm (6″) Storm Drain
Location: Beneath Departure Lounge Water Feature
Service: Structural CIPP Lining (Trenchless)
Duration: 1 Day + Cure & QA
⚠️ Project Overview
A critical 6” storm line located under the departures lounge at Whitehorse International Airport was showing signs of structural failure. With a severe sag at 101 feet and a partial collapse at 116 feet due to rock intrusion, the pipe posed a serious risk to terminal operations and infrastructure.
Excavating through the finished flooring of a secure, active terminal was not feasible. Nu Flow BC was brought in to deliver a no-dig, trenchless solution.
🔧 Challenges
- High-Traffic Area: Located directly under a secure, active passenger terminal
- No External Access: Only one internal cleanout available
- Pipe Damage: Sag and collapse with rock pushing from above
- Operational Constraints: Needed to avoid demolition, disruption, and delays
⚙️ Our Solution
Nu Flow deployed a trenchless Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) liner using internal access only.
Process Summary:
- 🪜 Accessed via interior cleanout
- ⚒️ Cleaned and descaled pipe using Picote Maxi-Miller with 10” Cyclone Chains
- 📊 CCTV verified damage and mapped liner requirements
- ✉️ Wet-out structural liner and inverted into place
- ⏳ Cured in place using ambient conditions
- 🔄 Post-lining CCTV confirmed 100% structural restoration
✅ Results
- ❌ Zero demolition of floors, walls, or finishes
- ⏱ Minimal downtime — terminal remained operational
- ✔️ Full structural restoration of a compromised storm line
- 📈 Extended system life with seamless, corrosion-resistant liner
🖼️ Site Highlights
- Left: Terminal exterior with restored historic aircraft
- Center: Technician preparing liner in secure interior corridor
- Right: Departures lounge above repaired pipe — no evidence of intervention
“No Dig. No Disruption. Just Results.”
✨ Why Nu Flow
When excavation isn’t an option, Nu Flow delivers. Our trenchless lining technologies restore even severely damaged pipes using existing access points — fast, clean, and with minimal impact.
Trenchless rehab is ideal for high-risk, high-finish environments where failure is not an option. Whitehorse Airport avoided a major facilities shutdown, preserved critical infrastructure, and gained long-term performance in just one working day.
